For the exhibition BAL! at the Royal Palace of Soestdijk 40 artist and designers have been invited to create a new work inspired by the different locations of the palace. The fascination for plants of both Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard were the starting point for this photo series.
In their shared passion they had a contrasting vision of structuring their garden. Bernhard represented a strict and controlled approach, while Juliana preferred a wild less structured growth of the plants. These counter positions return in the images by contrasting plain coloured paper surfaces with organic and structured plant leaves. These leaves appear through the incisions of the paper creating abstract compositions.
