Onomatopee is a platform and publisher focusing on art projects reflecting on communication. The foundation aims to question the context of our designed culture through research and presentations.
Maartje Folkeringa’s work plays the non-verbal forms of communication in our social interaction, our behaviour and the symbols we use to express our worth. It plays with power relationships and discusses the status wherein we postulate our social hierarchy.
The red threat of the booklet are the photos of Maartjes' inspiration wall that was part of her exhibition at Onomatopee. After every 8 pages a double spread of Black and PMS 812 appears, this determines the rhythm of the book. These pages mix with the full colour photography of Maartjes' work. The cover is finished with a high gloss foil embossing as a reminiscence to the fluorescent tapes that has been used at the inspiration wall.
