PADAUK
(pterocarpus soyaxii)
AFRICAN WOOD
35x45cm

Five carefully selected shades of wood are simplified to its smallest fibre. The dust, originating from one plank, is transformed into a pile of paper. By combining the classical medium of handmade paper with the contemporary production technique of laser cutting the abstracted leafs of each tree type are cut out of the sheets. Trough this, the shadows reveal different shades onto each piece.

This project is a further development of Paper Wood, which was presented at Dutch Invertuals 'A matter of time'.
Paper Shades was presented during the duo exhibition at Otrascosas de Villarrosàs, Barcelona.

As in the earlier project 'Paper Wood' we've collaborated with the great paper craftsman Leo Hoegen of the Papierderij. Places that still handcrafted paper become more and more rare these days. Having a passion for making paper and a lot of knowledge, Leo Hoegen helped with many try-outs to find the right way of production to preserve the woods' individual shades in the paper.
