Solids & Strokes at Grind the Gap

October 2017

Solids&Strokes_expo

Solids & Strokes is an exploration into silkscreen printing and its possibilities to create a diversity of colour combinations. Basic composition of solid rectangles and stroked rectangles are overprinted onto each other. A set of 16 colours is applied in 32 print runs. Based on a script like logic and matrix, the colours were combined systematically to achieve the biggest variety possible. This resulted in a series 200 cards and 8 posters, creating several series of tonal and multicoloured shades.

The project is developed as part of ‘Grind the Gap’ programme. The studio was invited by Stichting Plaatsmaken in Arnhem, a printing workshop and gallery space, that is organising the initiative. This to encourage designers and artist to experiment with analogue printing techniques. Participants of this edition are: Gilles de Brock, Catalogtree, Viktor Hachmang, Jaap Kroneman, Nick Liefhebber, Harmen Liemburg, Raw Color, Barry van der Rijt and Amy Whittle.

Grind the Gap was shown during Graphic Matters, Breda and Dutch Design Week, Eindhoven in 2017.
